IULIUS Gardens

Gradinile Iulius
We have transformed over 180,000 square meters of land into parks and urban gardens, with up to 46% of our project areas dedicated to green spaces. Here, among more than 80,000 mature trees, generous lawns, and lakeside paths, cities can breathe, and people can find a place to rest and relax.

From the first tree planted in Palas Iași

In 2011 to the tens of thousands of trees, shrubs, and flowers of today, we have turned more than 18 hectares of land into urban gardens accessible to everyone. Today, three mixed-use projects — Palas Iași, Iulius Town Timișoara, and Iulius Mall Cluj-Napoca — have become the only urban developments in Romania that have integrated large-scale parks from the ground up, right in the heart of the city.

IULIUS Gardens

Palas Iași Garden

Since the first tree was planted in 2011, the Palas Iași garden has begun to come to life. Today, we have over 1,000 trees and 50,000 shrubs planted, high-traffic lawns, as well as azaleas, hydrangeas, roses, daffodils, lilies and tens of thousands of other flowers.

All of this makes every season at Palas a new reason to gather together. Here, children run through the alleys, adults read on the grass, and summer evenings often end on the lawn, with friends close by.

Iulius Town Timișoara Garden

In Timisoara's youngest garden, the city is changing its rhythm. At Iulius Town, over 1,400 trees, 10,000 shrubs and 55,000 square meters of green space have transformed an unused area into an urban landscape where you'll enjoy staying.

Aici, gazonul de trafic intens te invită să stai mai mult, aleile te îndeamnă la plimbare, iar grădina completează peisajul urban cu un loc în care oamenii se opresc, respiră și se bucură de timpul petrecut.

Iulius Mall Cluj Garden

In 2013 we took our first steps on the shores of Lake Gheorgheni, and since then millions of others have joined us – on morning walks, late evenings, runs or bike rides.

With 18,000 trees and over 10,000 square meters of lawn, Iulius Parc Cluj-Napoca brought nature to where the people of Cluj needed it most: close to the office, close to home, close to them.

Other Iulius Gardens

The story of our gardens goes beyond Iași, Cluj and Timișoara. Around Iulius Mall Suceava we have created a green and pedestrian area of over 14,000 sqm, which brings nature to the intersection of shopping, leisure and everyday life. Here, terraces open onto alleys surrounded by plants, and outdoor events bring together the community from the region.

Around the Family Market Miroslava and Family Market Bucium centers, pedestrian spaces, trees and green areas transform proximity shopping into pleasant walks. The gardens here, although on a smaller scale, carry the same promise: wherever you live, you have a place to stop and breathe within a few steps.

Rivus nursery

The future RIVUS “urban forest” is already starting to come to life in the nursery hosted by the USAMV Horticultural Research Station. Here, approximately 700 mature trees are acclimatized, which will be transplanted into a new park of over 5 hectares, which will continue the green chain formed by the Armătura and Feroviarilor parks, along the Someș River. Metasequoia, plane trees, lime trees, ginkgo biloba, chestnut trees, pyramidal oaks, maples, mulberries, rubber trees, the Judas tree and other spectacular trees are brought from specialized nurseries in Italy and grown here together with over 100,000 decorative plants.

Over time, they will transform the former Carbochim industrial platform into a generous park, with a Japanese garden on the roof, green facades and promenade areas, where the people of Cluj will have a new place to relax.

Lazu nursery

In the town of Lazu in Dobrogea, we began the story of Constanța’s future garden. Here, in the region’s first private dendrological nursery, over 1,100 mature trees – out of a total of around 2,000 that will gradually arrive – are taking root before being moved to the new green areas that will cover around 100,000 square meters.

Lindens, maples, oaks, hornbeams, plane trees, chestnuts, magnolias, Japanese cherries and other spectacular trees, brought from nurseries in Italy and specially chosen for the climate of Dobrogea, will bring shade, color and texture to a former industrial platform. Step by step, the place is transforming from a once contaminated land into a future park where Constanța residents will meet and spend time outdoors.

About the flora

IULIUS gardens are designed as living collections of plants, not just simple green spaces.

Sustenabilitate Icon

We have our own nurseries, where we acclimatize hundreds of species of trees and shrubs before they reach the park, from ginkgo biloba and decorative chestnuts, to azaleas and hydrangeas.

Sustenabilitate Icon

At the base of the trees and on the lawns, we have planted thousands of flowers that change the landscape from one season to another, with vibrant shades, different shapes and fragrances that stop you, at least for a moment, from walking.

Sustenabilitate Icon

The landscape is completed by mature trees, brought with special transports from nurseries in Italy: 1,400 trees in Iulius Gardens Timișoara, over 1,000 in Palas Park Iași and over 100 spectacular specimens in Iulius Parc Cluj-Napoca.

Their size, the shape of the crowns and the colors of the leaves, which change throughout the year, dress the gardens in an ever-new setting, in which nature tells its story every day.

PTEROCARIA FRAXINIFOLIA

Pterocarya Fraxinifolia or the Caucasian walnut is a tree adapted to open spaces, with a very large canopy, creating a cool oasis in Palas Park Iași during summer.

CARPINUS PYRAMIDALIS

The Carpinus Pyramidalis tree or the pyramidal hornbeam has a perfect pyramid shape and can grow up to 12 m high.

GINKGO BILOBA

Ginkgo Biloba is one of the “oldest” trees on Earth and is deemed a living fossil. In the Palas Iași garden, Ginkgo Biloba trees are laid out along the entire central perimeter of the park.

BIG BONSAI

The bonsai is a complex tree that inspires calm and peace and has a distinctive capacity to create the man-nature connection.

TILIA (TEIUL)

Taking a stroll through Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca and Iulius Gardens Timișoara feels divine during spring owing to the fragrant linden flowers.

SALIX (SALCIA)

Monumental sized willows have existed in Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca as early as its fit-out period, but they were in precarious conditions and required the intervention of landscape engineering teams to save them.

AESCALUS HIPPOCASTANUM

Aesculus hippocastanum, commonly known as the horse chestnut, is a strong tree standing at towering heights, decorative by means of its appearance, canopy, foliage, flowers, and fruit.

QUERCUS PYRAMIDALIS

Pyramidal oak trees (Quercus Pyramidalis) beautify the main alley in the center of Iulius Gardens Timișoara and make up the general frame of Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca.

FAGGIO

A majestic specimen of the Fagus species is located near the main entrance of Iulius Mall Cluj.

PARROTIA PERSICA

The Persian ironwood is named as such in reference to its very dense wood. In spite of this, the tree showcases a very refined style, highlighted by its elegant shape, as well the ever-changing color of its foliage.

CEDRUS ATLANTICA GLAUCA

Growing up to 12 meters high, cedars are one of the attractions in Iulius Gardens Timișoara.

PLATANUS

The Platanus, also known as the sycamore, is a decorative secular tree brought from a historic Italian town and perfectly completes the spectacular green space in Iulius Gardens Timișoara.

MORUS

Originating in the north of Italy, Morus trees, commonly known as mulberry trees, were grown for a few years in special greenhouses in order to be planted in Iulius Gardens Timișoara.

BUXUS SEMPERVIRENS

Buxus Sempervirens, commonly known as boxwood or common box, is an evergreen ornamental shrub that can be easily pruned and modeled into various geometric shapes (spheres, cubes), providing a clear example that nature can also be a proper “mathematician”

TAXUS

Taxus, commonly known as common yew, is a low growing evergreen shrub that can be modeled into various shapes and provides a spectacular view in both Palas Park Iași and Iulius Gardens Timișoara.

ACER PALMATUM

Acer Palmatum, commonly known as Japanese maple, creates an outstanding year-round chromatic spectacle in both Palas Park Iași and Iulius Gardens Timișoara.

AZALEA JAPONICA

The azaleas embellish both Palas Park Iași and Iulius Gardens Timișoara, painting a spectacular picture for visitors especially during spring, when they are in bloom.

HYDRANGEA

Hydrangea, commonly known as Hortensia, is one of the most popular decorative shrubs in Palas Park Iași. Its large flower heads have an alluring appearance, as well as an unforgettable scent.

Park design

The urban gardens within the IULIUS projects were built from scratch, layer by layer.

Iulius Ilustration

We brought in mature trees, with impressive heights, thousands of shrubs and a multitude of decorative flowering plants, so that the parks would offer shade, color and breathing space for the community from day one.

Mixed teams of Romanian, German and Italian landscapers worked together to create spaces that would bring people together – for walks, games, events or simply for a break in the middle of the city.

The uniqueness of the Palas Iași and Iulius Town Timișoara gardens also comes from the fact that they are arranged above underground parking lots.

This meant special technical solutions for the structure, carefully thought-out waterproofing, a generous layer of fertile soil of up to 1.80 meters and a complex irrigation system. The result is easy to see on the surface: mature parks, full of greenery, where once there was only concrete.

Year after year, the IULIUS gardens absorb over 75 tons of CO₂ and make the air breathable for those who visit them.

Lines of action:

Sustenabilitate Icon

Our parks have become the preferred location for hundreds of outdoor events: festivals, concerts, film screenings, fairs, sports competitions or meetings for children and families.

Sustenabilitate Icon

Every day, thousands of people pass by here on their way to work or to meet friends – and the city feels more alive.

We have invested millions of euros in things that money cannot buy: time spent together, cleaner air, summer evenings on the grass, and a sense of belonging.

Ilustratie Sustenabilitate

The IULIUS gardens remain our promise that, no matter how busy the city becomes, you will always have a corner of nature close by.
